Your story is a piece of narrative fiction that is either set in the real world and contains fantastical happenings, depicts an alternate version of our world, or is set in a completely separate world with its own logic. As such, speculative fiction includes popular sub-genres such as Magical Realism, Surrealism, Fabulism, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Dystopian, Steampunk and Fairytale. Angela Carter, Jules Verne, Margaret Atwood, Philip Pullman and Ursula K. Le Guin are authors of note within these sub-genres.
